President John Mahama has extended financial support to Ghanaians affected by the Gbinyiri conflict, providing 6 million CFA (about $9,800) to meet urgent humanitarian needs.
The donation was presented by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa during his visit to displaced citizens who had fled across the border into Côte d’Ivoire.
During his session at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, September 15, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the funds would be used to ease the immediate hardships of victims and to facilitate their safe return home.
He said, “On behalf of President Mahama, I donated CFA 6 million to cover urgent humanitarian needs and to facilitate logistical requirements for their safe return home. This donation is distinct from other relief items including food, water, blankets and medicines already provided through NADMO.”
The Foreign Affairs Minister also conveyed the President’s message of peace and reconciliation, encouraging victims to embrace forgiveness and rebuild their lives in their home communities.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka, has already assured residents that the government has reinforced security in Gbinyiri and surrounding areas to prevent further violence.
He stressed that every affected citizen would be protected as they return to their communities.
The Gbinyiri clashes, rooted in a long-standing land dispute, have left at least 31 people dead, many others injured, and displaced thousands, mostly women and children.
The government says it will continue mediation and peacebuilding initiatives as part of broader efforts to restore stability and rebuild trust among affected communities.
