Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has described the ‘Big Push’ road project in Afienya as the boldest and most ambitious investment in Ghana’s road sector, stressing that it goes “beyond politics” and will transform the country’s infrastructure landscape.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, September 16, Mr Agbodza said that despite the Ministry of Roads and Highways owing contractors about GH¢40 billion, President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated rare political will by committing to the programme.
“Despite all that, Mr President, you made a bold commitment to institute an intervention that will go down in history as the president who gave the biggest dose of intervention at a single time on our roads. The Big Push is not a campaign promise; it is a bold intervention by your government,” he declared.
He assured communities in Greater Accra and the Ga-Dangbe area that the project will be completed within 24 months, describing it as a decisive response to Ghana’s infrastructure challenges and a project that will deliver visible results for all to see.
With GH¢13.85 billion (US\$892.9 million) already allocated, Mr Agbodza said the project will be closely monitored to ensure timely delivery, reaffirming that it represents the single largest investment in Ghana’s roads.
