Vigilo Mobility Foundation Champions Empowerment with Nationwide donations

The Vigilo Mobility Foundation, established by Columbus-based Ghanaian Jennifer Mensah-Bonzie, has completed a 16-day nationwide campaign delivering mobility aids, essential supplies and financial support to physically challenged persons across Ghana.

The outreach, valued at $50,000, covered Tamale, Kumasi, Weija, Nsawam and Cape Coast. Beneficiaries received wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, commodes, food items, detergents and school supplies.

In Tamale, the Foundation donated 40 mobility devices and cash cheque of  $3,000 to support the construction of an accessibility resource centre on land provided by the Paramount Chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Yakubu Abdulai. The facility is expected to become a hub for skills training and community support.

Kumasi also benefited, with 40 crutches presented to a skills training centre for the physically challenged, while the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital received 20 to ease demand from patients unable to afford mobility aids. At Weija Leprosarium, a cash cheque of $2,000 donation was made to support medical care.

The Foundation further partnered Afro-Arab Group in Accra’s Nima community to assist the newly launched Shatta Bandle Foundation, donating a cash cheque of $1,000 to promote entrepreneurship among little people.

Mensah-Bonzie also engaged Telecel Ghana staff in a motivational session themed “Challenged to Lift the Challenge: Inclusion and Allyship in Action” Following her address, three employees with physical challenges were presented with mobility aids.

Reflecting on the outreach, she said her own journey inspired the initiative, having spent three years at the Orthopaedic Training Centre in Nsawam after being diagnosed with a physical condition.
“I experienced first-hand the difference support makes. Our goal now is to ensure persons with physical challenges are not only mobile but empowered,” she noted.

The Foundation also extended help to families, providing specialised wheelchairs for children living with cerebral palsy.

It has since appealed to corporate Ghana and private citizens to contribute through donations, equipment and partnerships, emphasising that inclusion must shift from aspiration to reality.
