We’re confident of resolving SHS placement issues before reopening date – Education Ministry

The Education Ministry says it is confident that all Senior High School placement concerns will be resolved before the October 18 reopening date.

The Ministry of Education says it is confident that all concerns relating to this year’s Senior High School (SHS) placements will be resolved before the reopening date for first-year students.

Addressing the media after visiting the National School Placement Resolution Centre in Accra on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Press Secretary to the Minister of Education, Hasmin Mohammed, said the centre has been instrumental in resolving outstanding placement challenges.

He noted that the ministry had successfully managed the large crowds that initially besieged the facility in a bid to have their concerns addressed.

“We have realized that we have been able to decongest the crowd because we have moved in a lot of personnel to attend and listen to their issues and you yourself can now attest to the fact that we have decongested their place,” he stated.

Mr. Mohammed added that this progress will allow officials to attend to students and parents more efficiently and ensure all issues are cleared before schools reopen.

“Going forward we will be attending to their issues with speed and when that is attended then they are satisfied. Then we will not have more crowds gathering here at the official center,” he said.

Responding to questions about whether the reopening date of October 18 for SHS first-year students could be postponed, the Press Secretary said there was enough time to complete the process before that date.

“Well, we still have much time and when there is the need for that, for that, I think management and higher authorities will take a decision on that. But for now, we are working with the time frame that we have given to ourselves. We believe that we can be able to attend to them,” he explained.

In recent weeks, parents and students visiting the SHS Resolution Centre at the GNAT Hall have commended the ministry for the orderly and efficient handling of placement issues.

Over 5,000 people have so far visited the centre, with many expressing satisfaction at the swift response from officials.

The centre, one of several set up nationwide since September 18, 2025, handles complaints, verifies placement details, and offers quick redress to affected candidates and their families.

Senior education officials, including Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Clement Apaak, have visited the facility to reassure parents of government’s commitment to resolving all outstanding issues before students report to school.

The Mahama administration has reiterated its intention to expand the Free SHS programme introduced in 2017 to guarantee equitable access while improving the quality of teaching, learning, and infrastructure across schools.
