About 15,000 aspirants are expected to contest various constituency executive positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) across 276 constituencies nationwide this weekend, the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey has revealed.
The internal elections, scheduled primarily for Saturday, 24 October and Sunday, 25 October 2026, form a key part of the governing party’s organisational restructuring ahead of the 2028 general elections.
This will determine the leadership of the party’s structures at the constituency level, including roles such as chairman, secretary, organiser, women’s organiser, youth organiser and others.
“The credibility of our internal electoral processes matters enormously. It matters to our members and supporters, to the Ghanaian electorate, and to the future of our democratic institutions,” he said.
Kwetey noted that the volume of applications received across all 276 constituencies is “an encouraging indication of the NDC’s organisational vitality and the continued importance members attach to participation in our party’s democratic decision-making processes.”
On security arrangements, he stated that the Ghana Police Service will be responsible for security at polling centres.
He however cautioned party members against any conduct that could disrupt the process.
The party has made it clear that personal security details accompanying government officials or any other individual will not be permitted within the voting area.
Kwetey emphasised that all security arrangements rest with the police to protect lives and property, and that attempts to intimidate delegates will not be tolerated.
The Electoral Commission, he said, is expected to supervise the voting in collaboration with the party’s constituency election committees. A small number of constituencies have adjusted schedules or will see candidates elected unopposed.
