President John Dramani Mahama has expressed profound sorrow over the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing his passing as a great loss not only to Kenya but to Africa and the world.
In a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page, President Mahama extended his condolences to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga family, and the people of Kenya.
“A sad loss to Kenya, Africa and the World! My condolences, President William Samoei Ruto, Mama Idah Odinga, the Odinga family and the people of Kenya,” President Mahama wrote.

Raila Odinga, 80, died on Wednesday, October 15, after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at the Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, India, where he had been receiving treatment.
President Mahama, who shared a long-standing admiration for Odinga’s democratic ideals, hailed him as a “towering figure” whose commitment to freedom, justice, and democratic reform left an indelible mark on the African continent.
Odinga, a veteran opposition leader who contested the presidency five times, played a defining role in Kenya’s transition to multiparty democracy and the landmark 2010 constitutional reforms.

His political career spanned more than four decades and inspired pro-democracy movements across Africa.
President William Ruto has since declared seven days of national mourning in Kenya and announced that Odinga will be accorded a state funeral with full military honors.
