The Ashanti Regional Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned and distanced itself from comments made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, which it describes as divisive and contrary to the values of the party.

In a statement dated Sunday, November 2, 2025, the caucus took “strong exception” to the MP’s remarks, which reportedly suggested that Ashantis “used slaves for war” and that the descendants of such people are not entitled to leadership positions within the NPP.

The statement signed by the Secretary of the Ashanti NPP Parliamentary Caucus, Vincent Ekow Assafuah noted, “These comments are deeply offensive and run contrary to the spirit of unity, respect, and equality that the NPP stands for.”

“The Ashanti Regional Caucus completely disassociates itself from this narrative and condemns it in no uncertain terms.”

The caucus emphasized that the New Patriotic Party was founded on the principles of freedom, equality, and inclusivity, and that all members—regardless of lineage, tribe, or religious background—have equal rights and opportunities within the party.

“Ours is a Party that welcomes and rewards merit, loyalty, and service, and not lineage, tribe, or religious identity. Every member, regardless of origin or background, has an equal right to aspire to any position within the Party or in national leadership,” the statement added.

The caucus also warned against rhetoric that could inflame ethnic or religious tension, noting that such utterances undermine the unity that has long defined the NPP.

“The Ashanti Region, as the bedrock of the NPP, rejects any attempt to use history, tribe, or identity to divide our ranks or to question the belonging of any loyal member,” it said.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and national unity, the caucus urged all members—especially those in leadership positions—to exercise restraint and decorum in their public statements.

Meanwhile, the MP has refuted the allegations, asserting that his remarks have been “deliberately misinterpreted” to inject religion and ethnicity into a conversation that was purely about loyalty, sacrifice, and service within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
