The Government of Ghana has announced plans to begin the construction of six new regional hospitals for the country’s six newly created regions.

The announcement was made by the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

He described health as “the heartbeat of national development” and emphasised that no country can achieve “lasting prosperity without a healthy population”. He said the 2026 Budget represents a decisive step to modernise and expand Ghana’s health infrastructure.

According to the him, the government will begin “the construction of six new regional hospitals for the six newly created regions, beginning with three hospitals in 2026 and two district hospitals at Bole and Shama.”

Additionally, the Government plans to complete ten previously abandoned Agenda 111 hospital projects within the same year.

Dr. Forson also highlighted ongoing work on other key hospital projects, including La General Hospital, Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, the Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, and the Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua. He noted that these initiatives reflect the Government’s commitment to restoring trust and confidence in public healthcare delivery.

He further hinted on the government’s plan to “upgrade seven hospitals to enhance maternal and child health services,” reinforcing the administration’s focus on improving healthcare accessibility and quality nationwide.

The Finance Minister’s statement formed part of a broader 2026 Budget presentation, which underscored the Mahama Administration’s efforts to stabilise and transform the Ghanaian economy. Dr. Forson highlighted achievements since January 2025, including strong economic growth, falling inflation, a stronger cedi, restored investor confidence, and major infrastructure development.

“The 2026 Budget is more than numbers; it is a message of hope,” Dr. Forson said. “It tells every Ghanaian child, farmer, teacher, trader, and entrepreneur that their sacrifices matter, that Ghana’s recovery is real, and that their government is working tirelessly to build a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant nation.”
