Government has commenced the construction of classroom block facilities, Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compound, and mechanised boreholes in Upper Manya Krobo District in Eastern Region.

Upper Manya Krobo, a farming district rich with arable farmlands and water resources, is one of the food basket areas of the country, but long deprived of many basic social amenities.

For years, many communities have struggled with limited access to education, health care, and clean water.

In Asesewa Community “A”, parents withdrew their children from school; not because they didn’t value education, but because of lack of befitting classrooms.

“We started a school here, but because of the nature of the classrooms, many parents have withdrawn their wards to other schools outside the community. There was a private school here which has collapsed, which we wanted to use, but the owner later started demanding rent.” Said Isaac Amanor Tetteh, Assembly member for Asesewa Community “A”

However, government through the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly, has cut sod to begin the construction of a modern kindergarten block and a six-unit classroom block to bring learning closer to the children of Asesewa.

For the people of Mensah Dawa community, a new Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound is being constructed, the first of its kind in the area. This will help address struggles of accessing healthcare.

But perhaps the most pressing challenge has been water. Last year, skin disease experts identified neglected tropical skin infections linked to poor water conditions in some communities.

To address this, the District Assembly has cut sod for the construction of twelve mechanised boreholes, a move expected to transform access to clean water in the beneficiary areas.

The beneficiary communities are: Sawa, Aderfer Dorm, Anyaboni resettlement, Akajajeter, Sikaman, korlewa, obisua, Akatawiah, plekumase, Korso, kwapenase, and Kabu.

The Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko said the constructions of the mechanised boreholes are expected to be completed by December.

“These 12 communities are going to benefit from this package that will begin immediately. We expect that by Christmas, by December, all of them should be completed so that we commission for our people to use. You know the Krobo block are people that believe in the NDC. So anytime NDC comes to power, we see development. So I want to thank President John Dramani Mahama for this opportunity given us for our communities to also progress.” The MP said.

The District Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwasi Lawer, says funding has been secured through the District Assembly Common Fund to ensure timely completion of all projects.

He said the assembly is expecting to construct three additional CHPs compound when the last quarter of common fund is released.

“By the close of this year, third quarter will come, the fourth quarter will come, and we will merit our budget. Where we need three CHPs compounds, we started with one. And the remaining two, when we have the second quarter and the third quarter, we will continue with that. So we are for the people, and the people are for us.” Said Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, DCE.

For the people of Upper Manya Krobo, they are grateful to the government and the President.
