Air Transat launches first-ever direct Toronto–Accra flights ahead of 2026 World Cup

Air connectivity between Ghana and Canada is set for a major leap as Air Transat prepares to launch a direct, non-stop Toronto–Accra service in June 2026—opening new opportunities for travel, trade, and investment ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The airline announced that the route will operate twice weekly—Wednesdays and Sundays—from June 17 to October 22, 2026.

This will be the first-ever direct flight between the two countries, significantly cutting travel time and boosting convenience for passengers.

The service follows the Air Transport Agreement (ATA) signed in March 2025, which paved the way for expanded aviation cooperation.

The agreement allows up to 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly cargo flights between both nations.

According to the Canadian High Commission, the development will deepen economic ties, improve mobility, and strengthen cultural and educational exchanges.

Canada’s role as co-host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to increase travel demand, making the new connection valuable for fans, tourists, businesses, and students traveling between Ghana and Canada.

Authorities in both countries are urging travelers, investors, and diaspora communities to take advantage of the new route, describing it as a catalyst for trade expansion, tourism promotion, and the overall strategic partnership between the two nations.
