Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has described his arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, December 3, as “unwarranted” and part of a reckless agenda by the office.

Mr. Kpebu went to the OSP to provide information in an investigation into corruption allegations he had made against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng. However, he was detained before questioning could begin.

Speaking after his release, Kpebu condemned the actions of the OSP, saying, “Look, what they’ve actually done is that this is a suicide mission that Kisii Agyabeng’s OSP has embarked on. Yeah, he can pretend he has nothing to do with it, but he’s ahead.”

He alleged misconduct by personnel at the OSP, describing an encounter with a soldier assigned to perform police duties: “Can you imagine? We’ll come to what a soldier is doing at the OSP, performing police duties…They didn’t have name tags and yet performing police duties.”

Mr. Kpebu also accused the OSP of intimidation, recalling the threats made against him: “Next time you do that, you will see. In Ghanaian English, that means he will cause me some harm…So, I turned and gave him the same answer that, no, he has no right.”

Despite the ordeal, Kpebu insisted he remains committed to pursuing his allegations, emphasizing: “I have over 15 charges against Kissi Agyabeng. I’m not running away from this fight. So, they shouldn’t have even tried it.”
