Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called attention to the urgent need to address child poverty in Ghana, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive strategies to protect and support vulnerable children.
She made the remarks during the closing ceremony of the Strategic Planning Retreat, hosted by the National Development Planning Commission at The Royal Senchi Hotel in Akosombo, where government leaders gathered to discuss national development priorities.

“The fact that over 60,000 children are living and working on the streets is a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done,” the Vice President said, underscoring the scale of the challenge.
She also highlighted the importance of birth registration, noting that it “affects access to essential services like healthcare and education.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed concern about the widespread deprivation faced by children, including lack of nutrition, water, and sanitation, describing it as “unacceptable.”
