In a radio landscape long dominated by male voices, Naa Dedei Tettey stands as a powerful exception, and a standard-setter. As the only female host of an English-language morning show on radio in Accra, she is not merely breaking barriers; she is redefining what excellence, authority, and balance sound like on Ghanaian morning radio.

Weekday mornings on Starr 103.5 FM are driven by clarity, depth, and fearless conversation through The Morning Starr. At the centre of the programme is Naa Dedei Tettey, a seasoned broadcast journalist widely respected for her composure, credibility, and intellectual rigour. Under her stewardship, news is not just reported; it is interrogated, contextualised, and made accessible to the everyday listener.

Naa Dedei brings to the microphone years of newsroom experience and editorial leadership. Beyond hosting The Morning Starr, she serves as Deputy News Editor within the EIB Network’s English Cluster, contributing to editorial direction across Starr FM and GHOne TV. Her calm authority on air reflects a career shaped by discipline and consistency, from her early volunteer days at Radio Univers, through stints at Joy FM and Class FM, to her current leadership role within the EIB Network.

The programme kicks off at 6:30 am with the Newspaper Review segment, hosted by Naa Dedei Tettey. She is joined by Ibrahim Alhassan, Emmanuel Gbikpo, and Robert Nii Aryee as they take listeners through the day’s top stories. Together, they analyze and discuss the headlines, offering insights, context, and thoughtful perspectives to help audiences make sense of the news. The show is expertly produced by Isaac Addae, ensuring a smooth and engaging listening experience.

A defining strength of the programme lies in its well-structured, high-impact segments. Court Today, featuring Murtala Inusah, EIB Network’s Court Correspondent, delivers authoritative updates on major court matters; from landmark rulings to cases pending before the courts. By bringing judicial proceedings into the public space, the segment demystifies the legal process and keeps citizens informed about decisions shaping national life.

The show also captures the national mood through Trends, anchored by Obenewaa, which distils conversations from social media and the wider public sphere. From viral moments to cultural debates, the segment offers timely insight into issues influencing public opinion and social behaviour.

At the core of the programme is Starr Focus, a robust discussion segment that interrogates the most consequential story of the day. Politics, governance, health, business, entertainment, and the economy are examined through expert contributions and in-studio analysis, with Naa Dedei’s steady moderation ensuring balance, depth, and clarity.

Beyond hard news, The Morning Starr places strong emphasis on community and connection. A dedicated birthday segment celebrates listeners and notable personalities, reinforcing the programme’s human touch and its strong bond with its audience. Listener participation through call-ins further transforms the show into a true marketplace of ideas, where diverse opinions are welcomed and respectfully engaged.

It is no surprise, therefore, that The Morning Starr has become a preferred platform for policymakers, professionals, analysts, and newsmakers. Its credibility and reach continue to attract voices that shape public policy and national discourse.

Yet beyond the segments and structure, the heartbeat of the programme is its host. Naa Dedei Tettey leads with confidence, fairness, and substance. She asks hard questions without theatrics, manages divergent views with grace, and commands respect through knowledge rather than volume. Her presence on morning radio continues to expand the possibilities for women in broadcast journalism.

A graduate of the University of Ghana, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and French, and a Diploma in French from CEBELAE at the Université d’Abomey-Calavi, Naa Dedei’s commitment to learning, mentorship, and social advocacy further defines her impact. Her involvement in initiatives such as breast-cancer awareness campaigns under the Women of Valour platform reflects a journalist deeply connected to community wellbeing.

In a media environment where trust and relevance matter more than ever, the Starr 103.5 FM’s Morning Show stands tall; informed, inclusive, and impactful. And at its helm is a woman who proves every morning that leadership on radio is defined not by gender, but by competence, credibility, and connection.
