Ghanaian highlife legend Kojo Antwi, popularly known as Music Man, says he intentionally writes his songs with women in mind, embracing the “lover boy” image many fans associate with him.
Speaking on StarrChat with Bola Ray, the musician opened up about fame, temptation and the role his wife plays in keeping him grounded.
“I write my music with women in mind. They see me as a lover boy,” he said.
Kojo Antwi admitted that life in the spotlight often comes with temptations. “I’ve been tempted most of the time,” he noted, adding that such experiences are common for public figures.
However, he stressed that he has always taken deliberate steps to protect himself and his relationships. He recalled a period when he carried a picture of his girlfriend everywhere he went, describing it as something he was proud of.
He said his wife now plays a key role in helping him avoid compromising situations, explaining that she accompanies him on most of his travels and public appearances, including trips abroad.
“Everywhere I go, I’m travelling to Dubai with her. Everywhere I go, all interviews, she’s there with me. She couldn’t make it here. But most of the places I go to, she’s there with me,” he explained.
The veteran musician also revealed that his wife is among the few people he has written songs about.
He said aside from her, he has only composed songs for his father, his mother, Okomfo Anokye and Kwame Nkrumah.
Reflecting on the pressures that can come with fame and relationships, Kojo Antwi cautioned against situations that may lead to trouble, noting that there are instances where being involved with someone can demand personal compromise.
He added that some programmes and stories emerging from Kumasi highlight the risks associated with reckless behaviour, stressing that he believes divine grace and the support of his partner have kept him out of trouble.
