Government has declared Friday, March 20, 2026, and Monday, March 23, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration and an additional holiday following Shaqq Day.
In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Friday, March 13, the general public was informed that Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, 2026 will be observed as statutory public holidays for Eid-Ul-Fitr and Shaqq Day respectively.
However, because Shaqq Day falls on a Saturday this year, the government has declared Monday, March 23, 2026, as an additional public holiday to allow citizens to observe the occasion.
The Interior Ministry explained that the decision was made by John Dramani Mahama through an Executive Instrument in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, as amended.
“However, in view of the fact that 21st March 2026 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, declared Monday, 23rd March 2026, as Additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.
The Ministry urged the public to take note and observe the holidays accordingly across the country.
