Lands and Mines Watch Ghana (LMWG) has affirmed that Heath Goldfields possesses the technical and financial capacity to sustainably operate the Bogoso and Prestea Mines, following a comprehensive independent assessment of the mining operations.
In a technical and financial evaluation conducted at the mines, LMWG concluded that the company demonstrates operational readiness, resource commitment, and technical competence consistent with expectations for complex underground mining.
The assessment specifically found that Heath Goldfields is effectively managing critical underground water control systems, a key operational requirement for the mine.
LMWG also addressed concerns raised about alleged inefficiencies in underground water management, stating that such claims are not supported by verifiable technical evidence.
According to the report, the underground mining network spans Levels 1 to 24 and requires the continuous removal of approximately 10 million litres of water daily to maintain geotechnical stability, safe access, and sustained production.
The organization noted that dewatering operations are actively progressing between Levels 17 and 20, with current water levels measured at approximately two feet below Level 20. It said this indicates significant downward water displacement and effective hydraulic control within the system.
LMWG’s Technical and Operations Department further stated that the dewatering system is operating at efficient and consistent performance levels, with sustained water drawdown across multiple levels, describing it as evidence of operational control, system integrity, and technical competence.
The report also highlighted stable and continuous pumping performance, progressive water drawdown across mining levels, and consistent operational uptime as indicators of a functioning and well-maintained system.

As part of its validation process, LMWG conducted field-level technical reviews, real-time water level measurements, operational data analysis, engineering consultations, financial and operational assessments, and cross-verification by its Technical and Operations Department.
The organization said the observed water level reduction to approximately two feet below Level 20, combined with sustained high-volume pumping, demonstrates effective dewatering performance and operational control, achievable only through robust engineering systems, consistent energy supply, and sustained financial investment.
Based on its findings, LMWG affirmed that Heath Goldfields is a credible and capable operator for the Bogoso and Prestea Mines.
However, the group urged continued regulatory oversight by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards, while protecting workers and host communities.
LMWG said it remains committed to promoting transparency, technical accountability, and responsible resource governance within Ghana’s mining sector.
