A joint operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Bureau of National Investigations has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old woman, Regina Mamle Tawiah, for allegedly abducting and attempting to traffic a 9-year-old girl to Kenya.
A statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer of Eastern Regional Police Command, Bridget Opoku, explained that, the suspect was arrested at the Accra International Airport (formerly Kotoka International Airport) following swift intelligence-led operations by the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command with support from BNI personnel.
Police say the case was reported on Sunday, April 19, 2026, when the victim’s father lodged a complaint that his daughter had left home at Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District and failed to return.
Acting on the report, security agencies launched investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect at the airport while she was allegedly attempting to transport the child out of the country to Kenya.
The victim has since been rescued and safely reunited with her father.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that suspect was trying to send the victim to Kenya. Meanwhile, the victim has been reunited with her father”, according to the statement
The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty.

She has been remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
The Eastern Regional Police Command is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
