The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor has announced a significant breakthrough in the recovery of vital utility assets of ECG.
The Minister revealed that authorities have successfully recovered 1,569 Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers.
He however did not specify the contents of the containers or the circumstances of their initial displacement, the recovery is seen as a critical step in the ministry’s broader effort to address the logistical and technical bottlenecks currently hampering the energy sector.
Dr. Jinapor emphasized that this recovery exercise is part of a larger, uncompromising strategy to restore order and efficiency to the power value chain.
“My vision on recovery remains unchanged,” the Minister told journalists. “When we’re done, we will reconcile the figures and do what’s needed,” he said
The mention of “reconciling figures” suggests that a full audit will follow the recovery phase, potentially to address discrepancies in equipment inventory or to investigate potential mismanagement within the utility provider.
The update on the containers comes as the Ministry manages multiple fronts of a deepening energy crisis, including the restoration he Akosombo RestorationWork continues to bring the remaining three units at the Akosombo Dam back online following a major substation fire.
The Minister has directed the ECG to provide periodic updates on planned outages to keep the public “reliably informed”.
