Energy analyst Benjamin Boakye has described the reshuffling of ECG managers in the Ashanti Region and the interdiction of the GRIDCo CEO amidst the current power challenges in the country as hasty.
According to the Energy Ministry, the suspension of the GRIDCo boss is in line with ongoing investigations into the cause of the fire at a GRIDCo substation at Akosombo, which has adversely affected power generation and supply.
Although no official justifications have been provided for the ECG managerial reshuffle in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Boakye suspects it may be as a result of claims of sabotage by some NDC sympathizers.
Speaking on Morning Starr on Starr FM on Monday, 27th April, 2026, Boakye opined that that “it is hasty because already, we don’t even have a Board of Directors who will chair the affairs of the organization in times of these crises.”
He further demanded that the government come out with the reasons for asking GRIDCo to step aside.
“If the one in charge of the organization is being asked to step aside, then who takes over the mantle of leadership to supervise this particular investigation that has been commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition? So I think that they should have given us further information telling us why he’s been asked to go home or to step aside for some time until evidence establishes things,” he said.
The Energy Analyst said that providing answers to the questions will help bring to an end suspicion that the government is doing the bidding of social media influencers aligned to the NDC.
“We’ve heard many social media influencers of the supporting party agitating that they suspect some NPP—supposed or presumed NPP—employees sabotaging the system. So time is also of essence if this particular decision is taken at this current time where these suspicions are being raised, then it also confirms that maybe the gentleman was asked to step down because he’s suspected to be an NPP [supporter] and this political interference is likely to worsen the situation of the sector, especially when you are creating a division between workers having NDC and NPP workers at the plant,” he said.
