The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially launched the 2026/27 Colts Football Season at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The launch comes as the GFA continues its efforts to strengthen grassroots football development in the country.
According to the Association, Colts Football has been running for the past five years, following a query from President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, about the state of Colts football in the country.
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, who spoke ahead of the GFA President Kurt Okraku, expressed his excitement after seeing President Mahama speak about the development of Colts Football.
“I saw President John Mahama talking about Colts football on TV and I was impressed and very happy,” Asamoah Gyan said.
He further stressed the importance of Colts Football to the country and urged all participating teams to improve their standards.
“Colts football is very important to Ghanaians. I urge all the Colts teams to do better,” he added.
GFA President Kurt Okraku said the Association had made significant efforts to revive and develop Colts Football over the past six years.
“In the last six years, we’ve resurrected Colts Football,” Kurt Okraku said.
He added that the GFA had invested in the grassroots game and introduced more Colts-related competitions than ever before.
“We’ve invested in Colts football and introduced Colts-related competitions than ever before,” he stated.
The GFA President also assured that the Association would continue investing in grassroots football while introducing new competitions for Colts teams.
He revealed that there are currently more than 850 active Colts teams across Ghana and announced plans to introduce a girls’ Colts League this year as part of efforts to expand opportunities for young female footballers.
The launch was attended by officials of the Ghana Football Association, former Black Stars players and legends, sponsors of the Association, football stakeholders, Colts players, coaches and team owners, as well as media representatives.
