Women from across Ghana’s political divide are set to converge in Accra on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to demand justice, equality, dignity, freedom of expression and the protection of women’s constitutional rights.
The demonstration, which will bring together women in politics, market women, hairdressers, dressmakers, professionals and other members of the public, is expected to begin at Opera Square at 6:00 a.m.
The march comes amid growing concerns over the arrest and detention of women in connection with investigations into alleged offences, with the case of Salomey Awity Baffoe becoming a major point of public discussion.
Salomey, a senior nursing officer and mother of three, was arrested in connection with investigations into the social media platform “Ghana Jollof” and subsequently remanded in police custody for two weeks. The Ghana Police Service has said investigations identified her as allegedly aiding and abetting the publication and redistribution of content linked to the account.
Her arrest has, however, triggered concerns among sections of the public and civil society over the treatment of women during security investigations. Her lawyer has also challenged the circumstances of her detention before she was brought before the court.
It is against this backdrop that the organisers of the march say women must speak up for their rights and demand equal treatment under the law.
The action is being convened by a group of women leaders cutting across political parties, including PNP Chairperson Janet Asana Nabla, NDP Chairperson and Leader Betty Akuffo Amoabeng, LGP Running Mate Elizabeth Sam, Advisor on Gender and Social Protection to the NPP Flagbearer Akosua Asaa Manu, and NPP Gender and Social Protection Committee Spokesperson Grace Akosua Amoabeng.
Market women, hairdressers and dressmakers are also expected to participate.
The organisers are calling for justice, equality, dignity and the protection of constitutional freedoms, insisting that women’s voices must be heard in matters affecting their rights and welfare.
The demonstration is being held under the message: “Enough is Enough!”, with the organisers urging women to unite irrespective of political affiliation and demand that justice be applied equally to all.
