The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported a marginal rise in Ghana’s headline inflation, with the rate increasing to 5.2% in September 2026 from 5.0% in August.
In its September 2026 Consumer Price Index report released on Wednesday, October 7, the GSS said the latest figure represents a 0.2 percentage-point increase, although inflation remains significantly lower than the 9.4% recorded in September 2025.
The Service said prices increased by 1.1% between August and September, following a 1.0% decline in prices recorded in August.
“Inflation rose to 5.2% in September – up from 5.0% in August, but 4.2 points below a year ago. Prices climbed 1.1% over the month,” the GSS said.
The latest increase was driven largely by non-food items, which recorded inflation of 6.2%, although this was lower than the 6.8% recorded in August.
Food inflation, on the other hand, rose from 3.0% in August to 4.0% in September. Services continued to record higher inflation at 8.3%, compared with 4.2% for goods.
Locally produced items recorded inflation of 6.4%, while imported items recorded a comparatively lower rate of 2.4%.
The September increase comes after inflation fell considerably over the past year. The rate declined from 9.4% in September 2025 to 3.2% in March 2026 before gradually increasing in subsequent months.
The GSS said the September Consumer Price Index stood at 271.5, compared with 258.0 in September 2025.
The latest data were compiled from prices collected across 8,337 outlets in 57 markets covering all 16 regions, based on a basket of 307 goods and services.
The Service said the September figures highlight the continued moderation in inflation compared with a year earlier, despite the recent upward movement in the headline rate.
