A 30-year-old farmer has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife in an incident that went viral on social media.
Emmanuel Kwofie of Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality was convicted on his own plea by the Agona Nkwanta District Court on Tuesday, 14 October 2026.
The court, presided over by His Worship Mr Kuma Selorm Dzata, imposed the sentence after Kwofie admitted the charge of assault.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, investigations established that Kwofie is married to the victim, Diana Mensah, a dealer in second-hand clothing. The couple live together at Domeabra.
Police said that on 8 October 2026, Kwofie accused his wife of having an extramarital affair and subjected her to a severe beating.
Footage of the assault circulated widely on social media, prompting public outrage.
Kwofie was arrested on 12 October 2026 and brought before the court two days later.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted and sentenced accordingly.
