Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, Liberian President Joseph Boakai and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II are among the high-profile figures expected to headline the African Minerals Policy Forum – Mining in Motion (AMPF–MiM) 2026 in Accra.

The three-day forum, scheduled for October 19 to 21 at the Destiny Arena, will bring together African mining ministers, regulators, government representatives, traditional leaders and African Union officials to discuss regional cooperation and strategies to increase the continent’s economic benefits from its mineral resources.

Held under the theme, “One Continent. One Voice on Minerals: Aligning Africa’s Mineral Future,” the forum will focus on policy coordination, cross-border partnerships, infrastructure development and local value addition to strengthen Africa’s position in global mineral supply chains.

President Mahama is expected to share insights into Ghana’s Accra Reset agenda, including priorities for economic transformation, resource governance, workforce development and increased domestic value creation from natural resources.

His participation will also provide an opportunity for discussions on shared continental priorities ahead of Ghana’s 2027 African Union Chairmanship.

Liberian President Joseph Boakai is also expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting opportunities in Liberia’s iron ore sector and exploration activities as the country seeks to diversify its mining industry through the exploitation of critical minerals.

The forum comes as Liberia pursues regional integration through plans to transform its heavy rail and port infrastructure from exclusive, single-company use into an open-access, multi-user corridor. The initiative is intended to connect mineral resources in neighbouring Guinea to the Atlantic coast.

Meanwhile, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Patron of AMPF–MiM, will bring the perspective of traditional leadership to discussions on responsible resource development, community participation and the empowerment of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities.

His participation is expected to highlight the role of traditional authorities and local communities in efforts to formalise small-scale mining, improve responsible mining practices and expand local participation in the mineral value chain.

African Union Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, Francisca Tatchouop Belobe, is also expected to present the continental body’s perspective on mineral industrialisation, value addition and the development of integrated critical-mineral value chains.

Her contribution will focus on the African Union’s priorities in governance, beneficiation, green industrialisation and regional integration, including the roles of the African Mining Vision, the African Minerals Development Centre and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, is expected to outline the country’s mining reforms and its approach to responsible mining, sector transformation and increased value addition.

The opening day will also feature ministerial panels and roundtable discussions involving ministers and government representatives from Guinea, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Egypt and South Sudan, alongside Ghanaian officials.

Among those expected to participate are Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Geology, Bouna Sylla; Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Oladele Henry Alake; Sierra Leone’s Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Julius Daniel Mattai; and Tanzania’s Minister of Minerals, Anthony Peter Mavunde.

Other participants include Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi; South Sudan’s Minister of Mining, Losuba Ludoru Wongo; Ghana’s Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga; and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana.

The ministerial discussions will examine opportunities to expand mineral beneficiation and value addition, develop regional mineral corridors, improve mining infrastructure, share technical expertise, strengthen workforce development and harmonise policies across African mining jurisdictions.

Participants will also consider how continental frameworks and institutions can facilitate the integration of African mineral markets and improve cooperation as global demand for critical minerals and other commodities grows.

AMPF–MiM 2026 is organised by the Ashanti Green Initiative under the leadership and patronage of the Ashanti Royal Family, with the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, serving as a principal convening partner.
