Residents in parts of Kumasi should expect planned electricity interruptions from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, as engineers undertake critical works on the 161kV Anwomanso–Ahodwo transmission line.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said the interruptions are necessary to allow engineers to safely complete the stringing of transmission conductors on towers along the project route.
In a joint statement issued on October 29, the two companies disclosed that the transmission line upgrade had reached 70 per cent completion, with the entire project expected to be completed by the end of November.
The planned outages will affect communities along the transmission line route, with electricity interruptions scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on designated weekdays, excluding weekends.
ECG said it would publish a detailed schedule indicating the affected communities and specific outage dates to help residents and businesses prepare.
Explaining the need for the exercise, GRIDCo and ECG said, “The project has reached a critical stage involving the stringing of transmission conductors on the towers. This activity requires planned interruptions in electricity supply to some communities along the line route to protect the lives of engineers, other personnel working on the project and members of the public.”
The companies acknowledged the inconvenience the exercise would cause and appealed to affected residents and businesses for cooperation.
“GRIDCo and ECG recognise the inconvenience that these planned interruptions will cause households, businesses, and other electricity consumers. We appeal to the public, particularly affected communities, for your patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this period,” the statement said.
They added that the project would strengthen the transmission network and improve electricity supply reliability in the Ashanti Region.
“While the temporary interruptions are necessary to ensure the safety of personnel and the successful completion of the works, the project represents an important investment in strengthening the transmission network and improving the reliability of electricity supply in the Ashanti Region,” the companies stated.
They further apologised for the disruption and assured the public that the work would be completed as scheduled.
