President Nana Akufo-Addo is in hot waters over alleged case of plagiarism in his inaugural speech on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Black Star Square.
The gaffe has dented Ghana’s image on the international scene as the Western media capitalise on it as against the main inaugural event.
It appears Nana Akufo-Addo’s inaugural Presidential speech had two sentences lifted exactly from separate addresses by US Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush.
The two statements are: “I ask you to be citizens. Citizens, not spectators. Citizens, not subjects. Responsible citizens, building communities of service and a nation of character” – Bush on Saturday, January 20, 2001.
“Though our challenges are fearsome, so are our strengths. Americans have ever been a restless, questing, hopeful people. And we must bring to our task today the vision and will of those who came before us” – Bill Clinton on January 20, 1993.
The communications machinery of government has since apologised for the gaffe, however, cartoonist Makaveli puts the spotlight on the trending issue.
