A/R TVET Exams: TVET a key driver of Ghana’s development – Apaak

TVET is Ghana’s engine for transformation, says Dr. Apaak, as government boosts support for students and institutions nationwide.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has underscored the critical role Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays in Ghana’s development, describing it as a major force for economic transformation.

Speaking to students at the Methodist Technical Institute (MTI) in Kumasi-Kwadaso, Ashanti Region, on Monday, Dr Apaak reaffirmed government’s commitment to investing in the sector to unlock its full potential.

He extended his best wishes to the candidates as they began their final examinations, marking the end of their second cycle education.

Dr Apaak also visited other examination centres including Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), Tweidie Technical Institute (TTI), and the Business Secretariat Institute (BSTSI).

“As you begin your first paper today, I know you’ll excel in all your subjects. The President has asked me to convey through the Minister that technical and vocational education is what will propel Ghana to achieve the development we all want. That is why the Minister has announced the establishment of three additional technical universities,” he said.

His remarks follow the announcement by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, that government plans to establish three new technical universities in three of the six newly created regions, to promote equal access to higher technical education across the country.

Dr Apaak assured students that regardless of the path they choose after school, government would continue to support them.

“Those of you who want to progress academically from this level, provision will be made for you. For those who wish to practise what they’ve learnt, we’ve launched the National Apprenticeship Programme for you to take advantage of,” he noted.

He added: “Ghana cannot progress or develop without technical and vocational training. We prioritise your future and assure you that we’ll support you every step of the way, no matter the direction you choose.”

Since assuming office in January, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has pledged to provide technical institutes and universities with the infrastructural upgrades they need, as many institutions continue to struggle with inadequate facilities for both staff and students.
