The Akuapem North Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in Eastern region has imposed a ban on all unauthorised public gatherings in the municipality.
The Municipal Security Council, citing rising tensions in the area, says the measure is necessary to safeguard lives and property following recent chieftaincy dispute related disturbance.
Authorities are urging residents and stakeholders to comply fully with the directive as security agencies have been tasked to enforce the ban without exception.
The directive follows a planned peaceful flower-laying ceremony by two groups calling itself the Concerned Youth of Akropong and Justice for Kwasi Ansah Awuku.
The event scheduled for today Friday, April 17, 2026, in Akropong Akuapem was to mark one week of painful killing of Kwasi Ansah Awuku alias Dragon a personal bodyguard of Queenmother of Okuapeman by Police at night in his residence.
Meanwhile Akropong Police had earlier declined approval of request by the groups for the flower -laying ceremony citing non-compliance with provisions of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491).
Statement signed by Akropong Divisional Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police, Comfort Miah said notification submitted by the organizers failed to meet key requirements under the law; including the stipulated five-day notice period and details of the proposed route and destination.
Calls have intensified for an independent investigations into the killing of a popular resident, Kwasi Ansah Awuku, widely known as “Dragon,” during a police operation linked to a chieftaincy dispute.
Family and sympathizers have called on the Interior Minister to commission investigationinto the incident for justice to be served.
Kwasi Ansah Awuku was allegedly shot dead dawn of Friday, April 10, after security agencies launched a special operation led by the Eastern Regional Police Command with support from the national headquarters.
This followed clashes between two rival factions during the Awukudae celebration earlier in the week.
Police claim the deceased resisted arrest, barricaded himself in his room, and opened fire on officers, prompting them to return fire, which led to his death.
Police say it retrieved One pump action gun, 38 AA spent cartridges and 78 LIVE cartridges were retrieved by the Police. After further search, Police retrieved another pump action gun, 1 club, 1 keypad phone, 1 smock (what he was wearing during the violent clash), and 3 machetes.
However, this account has been strongly disputed by sections of the community.

A newly formed pressure group, Justice for Kwasi Ansah Awuku, has rejected the police version of events and is demanding a full, independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. Comrade Kofi Afful (alias Big Afro) is convener of the group.
The group is calling on the Minister for the Interior to commission an impartial probe to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
Meanwhile, an Assembly Member for the area, Safori Fianko, has also dismissed attempts by the police to portray the deceased as a hardened criminal, insisting that the narrative does not reflect the true character of the late Kwasi Ansah Awuku.
