The Northern Regional Police Command has seized 107 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and arrested suspects in a targeted anti-drug operation in Tamale.
Northern Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, said the operation was carried out by the Regional Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, during routine patrols.
He explained that the arrests followed earlier intelligence.

A suspect picked up in a separate operation led officers, through interrogation and follow-up investigations, to Banvim, a suburb of Tamale, where the suspected drugs were discovered after a search.
DCOP Lavoe said the development underscores the growing effectiveness of the Red Maria team, established to combat crime in the region.

“We have always maintained that the team is up to the task. They are determined to go all lengths to track down those involved in these illegal activities, arrest them, and bring an end to this menace. What we are seeing now is just the beginning,” he stated.
He stressed that the police will sustain the crackdown, warning that individuals involved in drug trafficking will be pursued.

The Regional Commander disclosed that some suspects arrested in earlier operations have already been arraigned, while others are expected to appear in court. The latest suspect linked to the 107 parcels will also be put before court.
DCOP Lavoe cautioned repeat offenders against continuing in crime.
“Those who persist in these acts, even after being taken to court, should know that we will pursue them relentlessly until they are all brought to justice,” he warned.

He further appealed to the public to support the police with credible information.
“We depend heavily on information from the public. Without it, our work becomes difficult. We are urging residents to volunteer information on where these individuals are hiding so we can act swiftly,” he said.
