Antonio Edem Asinyo has urged Ghanaian youth to take advantage of government policies and programmes while preparing themselves for emerging opportunities.
Speaking on the Morning Starr on Starr FM, hosted by Lantam Papanko, Mr Asinyo described the current state of Ghana’s youth as one of promise, citing the country’s high literacy rate and what he described as government policies heading in the right direction.
He commended the establishment of the Ministry of Youth Development, describing it as an important step towards coordinating youth activities and developing policies to address their concerns.
Mr Asinyo also highlighted initiatives such as the apprenticeship programme and youth empowerment programmes, saying they could contribute significantly to youth development.
He acknowledged that more needed to be done but said Ghana was making efforts to empower young people.
He encouraged the youth to prepare themselves for available opportunities by using social media productively, engaging in trade and taking advantage of government programmes.
Mr Asinyo also acknowledged concerns among young people, particularly about unemployment, and called on policymakers to listen to their concerns and use their feedback to improve existing policies.
He said there was still hope for Ghana and its youth, particularly in the area of employment, although some Ghanaians were yet to feel the impact of the country’s economic growth.
Mr Asinyo, a former president of the World University Debate Council, used the occasion to celebrate Ghanaian youth and recognise their contribution to national and global development.
