The Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church have officially announced the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, Ghana’s celebrated philanthropist, industrialist, and technologist.
Dr. Safo, affectionately known as “Kantanka, the African Star,” died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
A statement signed by his daughter, former Dome Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, described him as “a true genius, the beacon of hope for many, a father to the fatherless.”
They further noted that his “unique persona was shaped by his life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination and dedication to his calling and conviction.”
The family has appealed for privacy as they grieve, assuring the public that funeral and burial details will be shared in due course.
Born on August 26, 1948, in Bom near Kensere in the Ashanti Region, Apostle Safo rose to become a household name in Ghana and beyond.
He was the founder of the Kantanka Group, the country’s largest indigenous technology conglomerate, and in 1994 established Kantanka Automobile, which manufactures and assembles luxury vehicles.
His business empire extended across sectors such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, and technological innovation.
Beyond his entrepreneurial exploits, Apostle Safo was the spiritual leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, which he built into both a religious and industrial movement.
He was widely revered as a Pan-African advocate, inventor, philanthropist, and man of faith who championed local technology and community development throughout his life.
“With profound sorrow and deepest grief, the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church announce the peaceful passing of Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist and industrialist,” the family reiterated in their statement.
The family emphasised that he will be remembered for his resilience, innovation, and his commitment to uplifting communities through faith, technology, and social interventions.
