Record goalscorer for England’s U-21 team, Eddie Nketiah has opened up on his international career in an interview on “The Beautiful Game Podcast”.
Eddie Nketiah has scored 16 goals in 17 games for the U-21 team, the highest ever in Bristish history, but has been unable to break into the senior team.
The Arsenal forward who has Ghanaian roots says he is open to playing for both England and Ghana.
When quizzed on whether he will consider playing for Ghana, he replied, ” My parents are both Ghanaians, I’ve got the heritage, therefore there’s a possibility. I’m open to both countries; Ghana and England.”
“Being from Ghana, I’m obviously happy they qualified for the World Cup. It’s always good to have the opportunity to play for both countries.”
The former Leeds United striker has struggled for game time this season, playing just 571 minutes in 20 games across 3 competitions.
The 23 year old British-Ghanaian is reportedly likely to let his Arsenal contract run out this summer and seek a move away from the club where he honed his talent.
Eddie Nketiah says his focus now is on sorting his issues at club level and thereafter he will consult his family to come to a final decision.
” The situation is that I have a big decision at the end of the summer ( club football), international football comes after that.” he said.
” My full focus is to make a decision on where I play my club football next season, once that’s sorted out, I’ll sit with my family and have rather discussion. So I’m not closing any doors, I’m open to playing for both teams” he added.
Eddie Nketiah is reportedly being chased by Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen.
