The Asantehemaa’s funeral committee has clarified that banks, restaurants, transport operators, and pharmaceutical shops are exempted from the directive to suspend business activities on Thursday, September 19, in Kumasi.
All other businesses, however, have been urged to strictly comply with the directive, which forms part of preparations for the burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, scheduled for Thursday night.
The committee emphasized that despite the exemptions, all businesses across the city are expected to close by 8 p.m. in honor of Asante culture and tradition.
The closure is intended to create a solemn atmosphere for the royal procession of the Manhyia family from the Manhyia Palace to Bantama Baamu, via Breman, where the late queen mother will be laid to rest with her ancestors.
The burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, revered for her service and guidance to the Ashanti Kingdom, has drawn nationwide attention.
The rites, which began on Monday, September 15, are expected to bring Kumasi to a standstill as thousands pay their final respects through to Thursday, September 18, 2025.
