Atta Akyea accuses Ayine of ‘press prosecution’ in Adu Boahene case

Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, representing former Deputy General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) Kwabena Adu Boahene, has accused the Attorney General (AG), Dr. Dominic Ayine, of engaging in a “press prosecution” rather than following due forensic legal processes.

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was arrested for allegedly diverting $7 million meant for a cyber-defense system contract into his private accounts.

Addressing the media, the Attorney General explained that the arrest was linked to alleged financial misconduct involving the transfer of public funds intended for the procurement of cybersecurity infrastructure.

The contract, valued at $7 million, aimed to strengthen Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats, data breaches, and digital espionage.

Dr. Ayine disclosed that Adu Boahene engaged in unauthorized financial transactions, diverting funds meant for the cyber defense system. “In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr. Adu-Boahene on January 30, 2020, signed a contract on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the National Security on the one hand and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber-defense system software at a price of $7 million.”

However, speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, Atta Akyea alleged that Adu Boahene’s arrest was stage-managed to publicly humiliate him.

He claimed that the former minister was lured into a public space under false pretenses before being detained by officers of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

He further criticized the A-G for making premature public statements on the case, insisting that legal matters should be settled in court and not through media narratives.

According to him, a conviction in law is not based on personal belief but on evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The Attorney General’s job is to prove his case in court, not to shape public perception through the media,” Atta Akyea stated.

Following these developments, Adu Boahene’s legal team has officially applied for bail, citing concerns over his continued detention. According to Lawyer Atta Kyea, His family, including his wife, remains distressed over the situation.

The case has sparked public debate over whether high-profile prosecutions in Ghana are being handled fairly or influenced by media narratives.
