Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his support to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Adum, Kumasi, donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to aid in rebuilding their businesses.

The devastating fire, which occurred on Friday, March 24, destroyed several shops and stalls in the bustling business district, with losses estimated in the millions of Ghana cedis.

During his visit to the scene on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Bawumia expressed his sympathies to the affected traders and urged Ghanaians, particularly private individuals and businesses, to contribute toward the recovery efforts.

“I am donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to the victims, and I encourage others to also support the traders in rebuilding their livelihoods,” he stated.

Before Dr. Bawumia’s visit, a delegation from Manhyia, sent by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had already assessed the situation to determine the next steps for the market’s restoration.

Meanwhile, Richard Kwasi Ofori, popularly known as King Zuba a leading member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a top contender for the position of Kumasi Mayor has disclosed that some of the worst-affected multi-storey buildings will be demolished for safety reasons.

Authorities and city planners are expected to coordinate efforts to ensure the safe and swift reconstruction of the market area.
