The body of Nigerian boxer Segun Olanrewaju, who tragically died during a boxing match in Ghana, has been returned to Nigeria.
The remains of the 28-year-old athlete, popularly known as “Success,” arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday, where a crowd of grieving relatives, friends, and supporters had gathered to pay their final respects.
Among those present were representatives from the Ghana National Supporters Union, the Nigeria Supporters Club, fellow boxers, and members of Olanrewaju’s family and close circle.

As the casket was released to waiting mourners, the atmosphere grew heavy with emotion. Tears flowed freely, tributes were shared, and mournful songs were sung in honour of the late boxer whose life and promising career were cut short.
Supporters from both Ghana and Nigeria stood side by side, waving their national flags in a moving display of unity and solidarity for the fallen athlete.
Olanrewaju’s passing has sparked grief and reflection within the African boxing community, with many calling for enhanced safety measures in the sport. His funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
