A man believed to be in his late thirties is in critical condition after allegedly cutting his own throat with a tailoring machine at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
However, information gathered by GHOne TV’s Yaw Boagyan indicates he is originally from Kumasi and had been undertaking tailoring and tiling-related contract work in Mankessim with his apprentices.
He reportedly resides at Ajumako Techiman and commutes daily to work.
According to accounts, the incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when the victim visited a friend in Mankessim to rest. While the friend stepped out, the victim allegedly locked himself inside a room.
Upon returning, the friend reportedly found the room still locked and received no response after repeated knocks.
He then forced open a window and discovered the victim unconscious, with a throat wound and a tailoring machine plugged in nearby.
“He saw the machine plugged in, with the victim in a pool of blood, throat slashed, and on the verge of collapse,” a report indicated.
The friend alerted neighbours, who assisted in rescuing the victim through the window and rushed him to the Mankessim Roman Hospital.
He was later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
At the moment, neither the friend nor apprentices have been able to explain what may have led to the incident, noting that the victim had not complained of any personal issues.
The family is yet to be formally informed as the victim remains in critical condition.
The case has since been reported to the Mankessim Divisional Police Command for investigation.
