The Northern Electricity Distribution Company Limited (NEDCo) has disconnected power supply to the Chereponi community due to broken electricity poles, which have caused faulty transmission lines and frequent power outages in the Chereponi and Saboba communities in the northern and northeast regions.
To address the issue of erratic power supply in these communities, the Chereponi district has been removed from the national grid so that a technical team and contractors can inspect the faults and replace the broken poles. The technical team and contractors are working diligently to restore power supply as quickly as possible. District officials and residents are being kept updated on the progress, and alternative power sources are being explored in the meantime.
In an official press release dated August 24, 2024, the corporate communication manager announced that NEDco has issued a recall for contractors to promptly commence work on Monday, August 26, 2024. The designated contractors are tasked with addressing issues at various faulty sites, which includes replacing broken poles and conducting diagnostic assessments on problematic lines with the support of a specialized standby team. The primary objective of this directive is to streamline operations and enhance the efficacy in addressing the prevailing challenges.
Additionally, management expressed regret for the delay in addressing customer concerns and agitation, attributing it to the complexity of the system fault. They conveyed, “We have initiated discussions with stakeholders at various levels to facilitate the implementation of practical measures aimed at attaining a sustainable resolution to the ongoing challenges.”
NEDCo’s corporate manager, Maxwell Kotoka, stated in an interview with GHOne News correspondent Noah Nash that the company has chosen to prioritize addressing issues in the Saboba area to prevent potential damages to electrical appliances and equipment. This decision was based on technical analysis and advice received, and not due to discriminatory reasons.
