The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George has called on the Ghana Police Service to increase the presence of personnel in his area to curb crime due to the rising number of residents in the area.
“Looking at the numbers, it is important that the Police begin to relook at this place, we shouldn’t sit back and allow Kasoa to repeat itself here and then you start chasing the crime curve. We must be ahead of the curve, so the Police must relook at it. I will use this opportunity to appeal to the Police to establish the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ningo-Prampram because of the huge numbers here,” he reiterated.
The MP made the call when he donated five motorbikes and four air-conditioners to the Tema Police Regional Command.
The items which cost over 40,000 Ghana cedis will be distributed to the Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service and the Traditional Council of the area.
“It is a continuous thing and I hope that within the next six months we can do another injection of logistics for the Police Service. We are looking at helping the police to complete a new building. What we are also looking at is to set up new satellite police stations at the new settlements for police presence,” he disclosed.
According to him, the move for the satellite police stations would reduce the crime rate in the areas such as Central University among others where there have been attacks on students and residents.
The MP, therefore, called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to elevate the Divisional Command in his constituency to a regional status given the fast increase of residents and its attendance of crimes.
The Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, who received the items charged the public to desist from interfering with the work of the police.
He also warned politicians against intervention for the release of suspects describing the phenomenon as a big impediment in the fight against crime.
