The Women in Engineering (WinE) chapter of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with the Accra West Region, has launched an ambitious prepayment meter monitoring project. The primary objectives of this endeavor are to mitigate commercial losses, validate meter performance, update customer data, and foster customer engagement.

Scheduled to run from August 18th to October 3rd, 2025, the project aims to cover all 95,405 prepayment meters in the Dansoman District. This pilot initiative is poised to be replicated nationwide, ensuring efficiency, value for money, and optimal service delivery.

In an interview with GHOne Business, the Acting Deputy Managing Director for Commercial Services at ECG, Mr. Ebenezer Baiden, emphasized the importance of addressing systemic anomalies to drive efficiency, guarantee quality service, and maximize revenue.

“The essence of addressing anomalies in the system cannot be overstated. It is crucial for driving efficiency, ensuring quality service, and maximizing revenue.” he emphasized.

The General Manager of the Accra West Region, Ing. Sariel Etwire, utilized the occasion to caution the public against engaging the services of middlemen, colloquially known as “Goro Boys,” to avoid being swindled.

“We urge the public to desist from engaging the services of these middlemen and instead deal directly with ECG officials to ensure a smooth and secure experience.”She advised.

Meanwhile, the WinE Prepayment Meter Monitoring Project Manager, Ing. Miriam Amponsah, highlighted the initiative’s focus on inclusivity and sustainability. “Our decision to champion this exercise is informed by our commitment to delivering exceptional service and promoting sustainability, We hope to bring on board our experience as lady engineers collaborating with the men in achieving the needed efficiency” she explained.

The general public, particularly electricity consumers, are encouraged to welcome ECG field officials into their homes, institutions, and shops, allowing the exercise to proceed peacefully and ultimately benefiting all stakeholders.
