The Ministry of Education has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, warning that both teaching and non-teaching staff found aiding or abetting such acts will face severe consequences.
In a press release issued on Monday, August 18, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Abas Apaak (MP), the Ministry cautioned headmasters, teachers, invigilators, and supervisors to uphold the integrity of the ongoing examination process.
Dr. Apaak stressed that the credibility of Ghana’s education system rests heavily on the integrity of examinations, which remain non-negotiable. He cautioned that any individual caught facilitating malpractice would not be shielded from punishment.
“Anyone found guilty of aiding or abetting examination malpractice will face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible jail term. No one will be shielded,” the statement emphasized.
The Ministry further assured stakeholders and the general public of its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible examinations across the country, wishing all candidates success.
Examination malpractice has been a recurring challenge for Ghana’s education system. In 2020, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) reported widespread cheating involving leaked questions and teacher-assisted misconduct during the WASSCE, leading to the cancellation of some papers. Similarly, in 2021 and 2022, several invigilators and teachers were arrested by the police for providing answers to students during examinations.
In 2023, WAEC blacklisted over 200 schools across the country for engaging in organized exam malpractice, while in 2024, at least 15 teachers and supervisors were interdicted after being implicated in aiding candidates during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
These recurring incidents have fueled public outcry and raised questions about the credibility of national examinations. The Ministry’s latest warning reaffirms government’s determination to clamp down on perpetrators and restore public confidence in Ghana’s assessment systems.
