Election 2024: Bawumia, Mahama are qualified to lead – Dr. Boadi Nyamekye

Dr. Michael Boadi Nyamekye, a notable cleric and scholar, discussed the misconceptions regarding his partisanship by firmly asserting that “I can’t be partisan. I’ve never been. I’ve never supported any party openly.”

In an interview on Starr Chat on October 3, 2024, Dr. Nyamekye stressed the significance of maintaining integrity in his clerical role, stating, “As a cleric, I am supposed to be able to speak truth to power. So when somebody is doing well, I should say that you’re doing well without thinking you are for me or against me.”

This position has generated varying opinions online, with some labeling him as supportive of either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In response, he remarked, “The truth of a man is his compass. You should be guided by your own truth and convictions.”

When asked about his earlier comments complimenting Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Nyamekye noted, “I believe that Ghana is blessed with men and women who think they are ready to serve.” He praised both Bawumia and former President John Mahama, stating, “President Mahama has done well for his nation. He did well given the circumstances, the resources available to him.” He also observed, “Vice President Bawumia has acquitted himself fairly based on the portfolio that he was given to manage.Bawumia is as qualified to lead as Mahama is, one is a communicator and one is an economist.”

Emphasizing his outsider status regarding the internal dynamics of both political leaders, Dr. Nyamekye concluded, “If they are offering themselves up for election, I believe that when they see themselves, they know that both of them are ready and they can serve.” His reflections demonstrate a dedication to impartiality and a belief in the capabilities of Ghana’s leadership, irrespective of party ties.
