Government has announced a nationwide plan to roll out 2,500 transformers as part of efforts to strengthen electricity distribution and address persistent power challenges.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, 2026, stressing that the intervention is necessary to improve system reliability and voltage stability.
“In all, we seek to deploy 2,500 transformers to improve supply reliability and improve the voltages as well,” he stated.
The Minister explained that rising electricity demand coupled with years of underinvestment has overstretched existing infrastructure, resulting in frequent outages, low voltage and overloaded systems in many parts of the country.

He indicated that the planned deployment forms part of broader reforms aimed at modernising the power distribution network and ensuring a more stable and resilient electricity supply nationwide.
His remarks come amid recent power outages following transformer upgrades by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
