The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has directed AKSA Energy to accelerate work on the 900MW Takoradi Power Project , describing the development as critical to Ghana’s future energy security and industrial growth.
The directive followed a briefing by AKSA officials on the status of the project and its implementation timeline.
According to the project team, the AKSA Combined Cycle Power Plant is currently scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027. However, the Minister has requested a revised timeline aimed at bringing the project online earlier.
“While I appreciate the work that has gone into the planning and development of this project, intensify efforts and work towards completing the project by September 2027,” the Minister stated.

The Minister noted that the project will play a strategic role in expanding Ghana’s generation capacity, improving grid reliability, and supporting the country’s growing electricity demand.
“This project is of strategic importance to our energy sector and the broader economy. We must do everything possible to ensure its timely delivery while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance,” he added.

Once completed, the AKSA 900MW Takoradi Project is expected to become one of the largest power generation facilities in Ghana, significantly boosting the national grid and supporting the government’s broader economic transformation agenda.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is expected to continue engaging project stakeholders to monitor progress and ensure key milestones are achieved in line with the revised completion target.
