A group of farmers across the country and friends on Monday May 29, 2023 picked the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential nomination forms for Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto to contest the party’s flag bearer race.

The group was at the NPP Headquarters in Accra to pick the forms on behalf of the former Minister for Agriculture.

Addressing the media after picking of the forms, Dr. Prince Amuzu, Spokesperson for Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s Campaign Team, indicated that the full cost of the forms was borne by the group of farmers who believe in the competence of Dr. Afriyie Akoto to lead the country as President, having delivered while he was a Minister.

He expressed gratitude to the farmers for their show of love and support.

“These farmers and friends are all across the country who have come out boldly to say they want to encourage Dr. Afriyie Akoto. To the delegates, Farmers and the good people of Ghana we say a big thank you for the support. Farmers across the country indicated that they want to do this, and he did not deny them the opportunity. Delegates and friends as well came together to pull resources as sign of love for him to say they are for him and they want to encourage him to contest.”

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto joins the likes of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, former Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, former MP for Mampong, Francis Addae Nimo, and former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong who have so far picked their nomination forms.

The NPP opened its presidential primary nomination on May 26, 2023.

A press release dated May 25, 2023 signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua-Frimpong indicated that National Executive Committee and National Council approved timelines during a meeting held on Monday April 3, 2023.

“Nomination will be closed on Saturday June 24, 2023, special electoral college election if any will be held on August 26, 2023 and the National Congress also on Saturday November 4, 2023,” the General Secretary stated.
