Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team has expressed optimism after securing the number one spot on the ballot for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer election but insists its focus remains on job creation and economic transformation.
Speaking to Tutuwaa Danso on Starr Today after the balloting exercise, the campaign’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, described the process as transparent and fair, noting that the outcome symbolizes good fortune for their camp.
“It was just five candidates. It was an open process, and each representative picked their own number,” Mr. Kwarteng said. “In terms of people, marketing, and ballot visibility, being number one gives us a lot of advantage.”
He emphasized that while the team appreciates the marketing edge of being first on the ballot, their confidence is rooted in their policy message.
“We are not fixated on any number,” he explained. “But number one gives us an edge in marketing, PR, and visibility — and that’s something we appreciate.”
Reiterating the campaign’s core message, Mr. Kwarteng said their focus is on promoting Kennedy Agyapong’s vision for job creation and economic revival.
“From day one, we have maintained that ours is the right campaign. Kennedy is bringing three things: jobs, jobs, and more jobs,” he stated.
Addressing parallels drawn with the 2024 primary, where Mr. Agyapong also drew the number one slot but did not win, Mr. Kwarteng said this contest presents a new context and energy.
“These are two separate elections with different dynamics. This time around, being number one sends a strong signal that we are rising. Ultimately, whatever number we pick is divine,” he remarked.
He added that the campaign’s strategy is grounded in direct grassroots engagement with delegates across the country.
“We will go to the delegates, talk to them, and we are very hopeful. Like the Bible says, the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord. We trust that God will guide this process in our favour,” he said.
The NPP presidential primary is scheduled for January 31, 2026. The final ballot order is as follows:
- Kennedy Ohene Agyapong
- Dr. Bryan Acheampong
- Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
- Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
- Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
