Security agencies have intercepted eight pistols and 400 blank cartridges during a joint inspection of a container at the Takoradi Integrated Terminal (TIT).
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) disclosed this in a statement, saying the weapons were discovered during an inspection conducted by officers from its Customs Division, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), National Security and TIT operators.
The items were found in a black bag inside a container identified as TIIU5055870, declared under Bill of Entry (BOE) No. 41026792479.
The seized weapons comprised six Mini Gap pistols, one Bruni 96 automatic pistol and one Bruni Model 84 pistol.
The team also discovered eight packs of blank cartridges, each containing 50 cartridges, bringing the total to 400.
According to the GRA, the items were identified in the presence of the declarant, Royal Frontline Logistics Limited, and the importer, Alhassan Musah.
The inspection was suspended due to adverse weather conditions and the late hour, with the container secured using seal numbers Y008621 and 216211.
A full physical examination of the container was scheduled for the following morning.
The seized items, together with the bag in which they were found, were subsequently transferred to the GRA Customs Division Collection Armoury under Seizure Notice No. 0027834 for safekeeping and further investigation.
The Regional Police was also informed, while the Regional Crime Officer documented details of the seizure and the persons involved to support ongoing investigations.
Authorities say investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the importation of the weapons.
