The former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been granted GHS500,000bbail in the sum of with two sureties, following his arrest over alleged theft of state-owned vehicles belonging to the company.
Mr. Jumah was granted bail on Monday, June 30, after appearing at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra, where he had been held for questioning.
The Ghana Police Service, during a press briefing earlier confirmed the retrieval of three state-owned vehicles allegedly from Mr. Jumah, as part of ongoing investigations into suspected financial impropriety and asset misappropriation during his tenure at the state-owned distillery.
Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, addressing the media, stated that Jumah’s arrest followed a formal petition from GIHOC Distilleries, alleging that he unlawfully retained company vehicles after leaving office.
Mr. Jumah was arrested on Sunday, June 29, at a private residence in Kumasi, where he was reportedly celebrating his birthday.
He was initially detained at the Ashanti Regional Police Command before being transferred to the CID headquarters in Accra for further investigation.
DCOP Donkor confirmed that three of the missing vehicles have been successfully retrieved, adding that efforts are underway to locate any remaining assets and establish the full scope of the alleged misconduct.

“She said, “I must mention that this afternoon we have retrieved three vehicles, so the said vehicles that were stolen by him have been retrieved. So he’s really assisting us with the investigation and then we will take it up from there.”
Police say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course.
