The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has assured the public that it will not tolerate or protect any soldier found guilty of assaulting civilians, following the arrest of a soldier captured in a viral video attacking two individuals at a pharmacy in Burma Camp.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the GAF confirmed that the soldier, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Williams Mensah, was arrested by Military Police personnel at dawn after a video circulated widely on GHOne TV and social media.

The footage, which went viral on Wednesday, October 29, showed the soldier physically assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer during an altercation inside a drug store within Burma Camp.

The woman, who reportedly attempted to film the confrontation, was slapped and punched multiple times, while the pharmacist was also attacked.

“The arrest of the suspect was carried out by Ghana Military Police personnel at dawn today, Thursday 30 October 2025. The suspect is assisting in investigation over the incident. The victims have also undergone medical attention and are also assisting with investigations.”

The Armed Forces condemned the assault and emphasized its zero-tolerance stance toward misconduct by military personnel.

“The Armed Forces assures the general public that it will not condone any acts of assault on civilians and will not shield any soldier engaged in such,” the statement said.

The GAF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within the ranks, adding that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will follow based on the outcome of the investigations.

The statement was signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, and issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters in Burma Camp.
