The Ghana Navy has dismissed claims of killing two youth in Tema Manhean over the weekend when an altercation ensued during the Kplejoo festivities.
The youth insist two of their members were killed when the Navy personnel opened fire on them.
However, Speaking to Starr News, Public Relations Officer of the Navy, Andy La-Anyane stated that they only fired warning shots.
“There is nothing to suggest the two were killed at the base during the squabble. We only protected the base against infiltration.
“There were no dead bodies picked in front of our base. There were no bloodstains on the streets or anything. All these things will come up when the police finish with their investigations,” he added.
Mr. La-Anyane also pleaded with traditional authorities in Tema to calm tempers of the youth to forestall any reprisal.
But the Youth Spokesperson at the Tema Traditional Council, Henry Oninku Okoe insisted the Navy is peddling falsehood as they leave the matter to their deities.
Member of Parliament for Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten has assured justice will be served.
Some sections of the public including Security Analyst, Dr. Adam Bonaa has condemned the statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, threatening retaliation against persons who carry out attacks on military installments.He describes the content of the statement from GAF as having no sense of remorse or accountability.
Dr. Bonaa also urged President Akufo-Addo to speak on matters of repeated military brutalities.
The Ga Adangbe Council says the use of love ammunition by the military during a traditional festival constitutes abuse of power and a violation of their human rights.
